Small Business Information Services

Willard Library’s Small Business Information Services provide free information for getting started with a small business idea. We help transform your inspiration into an action plan! By making a Book a Librarian appointment, we can guide you through designing a business strategy with Business Model Canvas, a one-page tool that is used by millions of entrepreneurs. For beginning entrepreneurs, we are your one-stop shop to get you moving.

We want you to grow! With the right information, you can gain confidence in creating or expanding a small business. However, we cannot give you professional advice. We are not lawyers, nor accountants, nor professional marketers. We are research-oriented, name-dropping librarians who can guide you through the process of developing your idea – your business plan – and then get you to the right professionals who can help you with the next steps.

After completing a well-thought-out plan, we can connect you to professionals who offer pro-bono or low cost services. The services include help with tax questions, acquiring loans, creating web and marketing strategies, and health insurance. Meeting the right people and getting to the right resources is key to the success of your business.

We can also show you how to get the most out of the business databases made available through the Michigan eLibrary (MeL). DemographicsNow is a comprehensive demographic information tool that helps you assess business viability, create sales leads and marketing mailing lists, and analyze population trends. You can book an appointment with us to learn how to use this invaluable software and or other useful electronic resources.
