Youth Services Department Head
Tynisha Dungey started her career as an educator at the age of seven. She would sit her dolls in a row and teach them lessons about reading and arithmetic. Her parents would find papers where Tynisha had written out lesson plans on what she would teach the next day. Once Tynisha had accumulated enough books, she developed a system for her “students” to check out books from her “classroom library.” To no surprise, as soon as Tynisha graduated from Battle Creek Central High School, she went off to Grand Valley State University to study history and elementary education.
After graduation, Tynisha served Battle Creek Public Schools for twelve years as an educator, Title I teacher, and literacy coach. She received her masters degree in urban education from Western Michigan University during her time with BCPS. Later, she worked as a third grade teacher for Lakeview School District until she began a new career as the Youth Services Manager at Willard Library.
It is amazing how things have come full circle for Tynisha. Becoming the Youth Services Manager has allowed her to marry all of the things she’s been passionate about since childhood: children, reading, and her love for the library into one amazing position. She is excited about her journey at Willard Library and hopes every single child will come and visit her in the Children’s Room.
