On April 2, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer issued an executive order to cancel all in-person classes for K-12 students for the remainder of the 2019-20 academic year.
While we expected this decision, it has devastated students, parents, and teachers nonetheless. Parents are now responsible for remote learning and teachers are preparing to present curriculum in a new way via distance learning.
While all these changes can be overwhelming, now is the time for us to unite and band our resources together to provide quality learning experiences for our children.
Although the library buildings are closed, we are dedicated to providing quality digital services to assist parents and teachers with remote and distance learning. Two of the latest additions to Willard's digital apps are TumbleMath and TeenBookCloud.
TumbleMath is a comprehensive collection of stories that teach math concepts.
TumbleMath users can find stories that teach mathematical concepts such as story problems, fractions, and division. Once a story is chosen, users can read and hear the story online. Common core-aligned lesson plans are attached to each story, and quizzes provided to check a child's understanding of the concept.
TeenBookCloud is a database of ebooks for middle and high schoolers.
The database includes graphic novels, nonfiction, National Geographic videos, and even drama and poetry. The app engages a wide range of readers because of the high interest/low level titles it provides. It also has an Advanced Placement English component that allows students to explore classics, contemporary works, and even Shakespeare!
The best part about both of these apps are that they are free and available to the public through Willard Library.
If you are prompted for a username and password for either:
- Username: tumble2020
- Password: A3b5c6
They are from the same company that has provided Willard TumbleBooks for several years. It offers hundred of digital books for elementary grades.
We look forward to seeing all of our guests soon. In the meantime enjoy the library's digital apps until we are able to get together again.
