Building Stronger Readers. Strengthening Our Community
Willard Library is honored to work in collaboration with the Kalamazoo Literacy Council to bring adult literacy services to our community. Through this program, adults can receive free, one-on-one reading tutoring in a safe and welcoming library space. These services support adults at all stages of life, whether they want to improve reading skills for work, family, school, or personal goals.
- A safe, welcoming meeting space
- Tutor training and materials
- Ongoing support for both tutors and learners
This program is designed to be respectful, confidential, and flexible. We meet people where they are and support their goals.
Become an Adult Literacy Tutor
Volunteer Tutors work one-on-one with adult learners in the library and help them build reading skills and confidence.
You do not need to be a teacher to volunteer. Free training is provided through the program and includes one orientation session, two half-day training sessions, and some at-home practice. Tutors also receive structured materials and ongoing support throughout the tutoring experience.
Tutoring is flexible and scheduled based on your availability. As a tutor, you can make a meaningful, lasting impact while supporting adult learners in your community. Get started by calling 269-968-8166 x537 or fill out the form below to have someone contact you.
