With our Digital Library, access Willard Library anytime, anywhere! Willard Library offers a variety of ways to access eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines, comics, music, TV shows, and movies on your personal mobile device or computer. All you need is your Willard Library Card. *Certain services will also require the creation of a username and password. Click on each service below to learn more. 

Libby by Overdrive

Borrow ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, and more from your local library for free! Libby is the newer library reading app by OverDrive, loved by millions of readers worldwide.

How to Use Libby (For Phones, Tablets, and Chromebooks)

Step 1: Download the App

  • Search for Libby, by OverDrive in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and install it.
  • Open the app and answer “Yes” when it asks if you have a library card.

Step 2: Find Willard Library

  • Choose “Search for a Library” and type in Willard Library.
  • Select Willard Library (Mid-Michigan Library Network) from the list.
  • Tap “Sign In With My Card,” select Willard Library again, and enter your Library Card Number and PIN.

Step 3: Borrow and Read

  • Use the magnifying glass icon to search for titles, or the building icon to browse the collection.
  • Tap “Borrow” on any available title. Borrows last for 7, 14, or 21 days (you can change this in your settings).
  • Downloaded books will appear on your Shelf and will automatically return themselves on their due dateโ€”no late fees ever!

How to Use the OverDrive Website (For Computers and eReaders)

If you prefer reading on a desktop computer, laptop, or transferring files to an older Kobo or Nook eReader, you can use the classic website.

Step 1: Visit the Site and Log In

  • Open your internet browser and go to mmln.overdrive.com (this is the Mid-Michigan Library Network portal that Willard Library shares).
  • Click “Sign In” in the top right corner.
  • Select “Willard Library” from the dropdown menu, then enter your Library Card Number and PIN.

Step 2: Browsing and Checking Out

  • Browse or search for ebooks, audiobooks, or magazines.
  • Click “Borrow” on a title. A pop-up box will let you select your loan period before confirming.

Step 3: Reading Your Book

  • To read on your computer screen: Click “Read now in browser.” The book will open in a new tab immediately.
  • To read on a Kindle: Click “Read now with Kindle.” This will securely redirect you to Amazon to send the book directly to your Kindle device.
  • To transfer to an eReader: Click “Download EPUB eBook.” You will need the free Adobe Digital Editions software on your computer to open this file and plug in your eReader to transfer it.

How to Use Kanopy

Step 1: Sign Up & Authenticate

  • Go to willard.kanopy.com or download the Kanopy app on your mobile device or smart TV.
  • Click “Get Started” and select “Willard Library.”
  • Enter your Willard Library card number and PIN to verify your account.

Step 2: Create Your Profile

  • Enter your name and email address, and create a password.
  • Moving forward, you will use this email and password to log in to Kanopy on any device (Roku, Apple TV, Fire Stick, iOS, or Android).

Step 3: Understand Your Tickets

  • Every month, your library card is filled with a set number of Tickets to stream videos.
  • Tickets reset on the 1st of every month and do not roll over.
  • As you browse, each movie or series will clearly display how many tickets it costs and how many days (48 to 72 hours for most films) you have to watch it.
  • Bonus: Streaming videos inside the Kanopy Kids section requires zero tickets and is completely unlimited!

Hoopla

Hoopla Digital is a digital streaming service for library users to access eBooks, eAudiobooks, music, movies, and TV shows using portable devices like smartphones and tablets.

How to Use Hoopla

Step 1: Create an Account

  • Go to hoopladigital.com or download the Hoopla app on your mobile device or smart TV.
  • Click “Sign Up” and select “Willard Library.”
  • Enter your Willard Library card number and PIN, then create a username and password for future logins.

Step 2: Understand Your Monthly Borrows

Willard Library cardholders get two types of borrows each month:

  • Instant Borrows: 8 checkouts per month for immediate streaming or downloading with no waitlists. These reset on the 1st of every month.
  • Flex Borrows: 5 checkouts to use on thousands of specially marked Flex eBooks and Audiobooks. If you run out of Flex borrows, simply return one to immediately check out another!

Step 3: Keep Track of Loan Times

Borrowed items automatically return themselves when they are dueโ€”no late fees ever!

  • Movies & TV Shows: 3 days (72 hours)
  • Music Albums: 7 days
  • eBooks, Audiobooks, & Comics: 21 days

Tip: Look for the Hoopla BingePass in the app! A BingePass counts as just 1 borrow but gives you 7 days of unlimited access to entire collections of magazines, puzzles, or kids’ content.

Freegal

Freegalยฎ is a free music service provided by your library. Freegal offers access to about 15 million songs

How to Use Freegal Music

Step 1: Log In

  • Go to willard.freegalmusic.com or download the free Freegal Music app on your phone or tablet.
  • Click “Log In” in the top right corner.
  • Select “Willard Library” and enter your library card number and PIN.

Step 2: Stream Music (Unlimited)

  • You can stream music ad-free for up to 24 hours a day!
  • Listen to individual songs, full albums, or pre-made playlists. Streaming is completely unlimited and does not count against your weekly download limit.

Step 3: Download Tracks to Keep

  • Willard Library cardholders get a set number of free downloads every week (usually 3 to 5 songs).
  • When you download a song, it is yours to keep forever. The files are high-quality MP3s that you can transfer to your computer, phone, or any other device.

Important Tip: Your download counter resets every week on Monday at midnight. Unused downloads do not roll over to the next week, so be sure to use them all up before Sunday night!

Willard Libraryโ€™s โ€œTours of Battle Creekโ€ helps you explore Battle Creekโ€™s historic, cultural and architectural heritage through photographs, artifacts and audio narratives. Each tour includes static maps as well as GPS markers keyed to particular sites. We are working to develop visual, audio and intellectual content for as many as 25 tours.
